Ice e-mystery: Global Cooperative Students E-books

From 1 Nov 07 to 31 Mar 09
Host: Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery
Intended audience: Students

An exciting project that involves 13 Australian middle school classes paired with 13 northern hemisphere classes to cooperatively write 13 e-books using a mystery genre and focussing on the polar environments. Students will investigate the polar regions through access to scientists in the classroom, visits to Museums with polar exhibits and email contact with scientists on the ice in Antarctica. Teachers will receive extensive training in both the sciences and the arts, storywriting and illustration, and work with acclaimed authors such as Alison Lester and Coral Tulloch. The students will use then the web to communicate their ideas across the globe and produce the books in later 2008. Coordinated by the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery and funded through a Australian Schools Innovations in Science Technology and Mathematics grant.
